About Math Circles of Chicago

Math Circles of Chicago aims to make rich, exciting math opportunities equitable and accessible for young people in Chicago, particularly focusing on Black and Latino communities and low-income households. Their mission is to ensure every student can unlock their full potential by fostering a love for math through engaging and free programs for grades 3-12.

Products & Services

In-Person Hubs:Math Circles meet during the academic year at various Chicago schools and the University of Chicago, open to all students, meeting roughly two out of every three weeks.

Online Hubs:Online math programs open to students from anywhere, prioritizing CPS students, with a 4:1 student-teacher ratio for engagement during the academic year.

College Pathways:Support and programming for high schoolers (grades 9-12) aiming for math-related college majors, including paid assistantships, summer math camps, and scholarships.

Math Festivals:Large public math festivals held throughout the year at venues like Chicago Public Libraries, with the biggest event in May at Payton High School.

Summer Camps:Half-day camps for two weeks in July, focusing on hands-on, collaborative math activities often outdoors, emphasizing community and creativity.

QED: Chicago's Youth Math Symposium:MC2's largest annual event where students present original math research to judges, with support through workshops and mentorship.

After School Programs:Regular Math Circles at middle schools during or after school hours, led by CPS teachers for their students at the same location.

Community Centers:Weekly math enrichment at community centers like Sunshine Gospel Ministries and Gads Hill Center, with plans to expand annually.

Shelters:Math Circles at shelters for homelessness and domestic violence, in collaboration with Chicago Hopes for Kids, catering to a wide age range.

STEM Partners:Partnerships with STEM programs like MAPSCorps to support math circles, focusing on community data asset mapping and statistics.
